Bear FC was created as a community where bereaved dads can come together, connect with others who understand, and know they don’t have to carry grief alone.

The name was chosen with purpose.
The bear represents strength, comfort and protection. It’s also a quiet nod to bereavement, with Bear echoing the beginning of the word.

FC stands for Fatherhood Collective because this is about far more than football. It’s about creating a space where bereaved dads are supported by friends and fellow fathers who simply want to stand alongside them.

We’re proud to follow in the footsteps of groups like Féileacáin Fathers, whose work has shown the impact football can have in bringing bereaved dads together. Their example has inspired us, and we hope Bear FC can continue that here in Chicago while encouraging more communities to create spaces like this.

Whether you’re looking for a kickabout, a conversation after the game, or simply somewhere you don’t have to explain yourself, there’s a place for you here.

Every child has a story.
Every dad matters.
You’re not alone.
